Sacramento, CA – Sacramento County Sheriff’s Deputy Adam Gibson and a K9 have been killed in a gunfight on the Cal Expo grounds late Monday night. A second deputy was shot and wounded, and the suspect was killed.

Authorities say at around 10PM Monday night deputies attempted a traffic stop of a driver, who was on parole, at Arden Way and Morse Avenue. The driver initially stopped, but sped away, starting a pursuit.

The driver eventually crashed his car, ending the pursuit on the Cal Expo grounds.

The suspect, who has only been identified as a man in his 40s, refused to roll down his windows or exit the vehicle once stopped.

Less lethal rounds were fired through the back window of the vehicle, but the suspect did not comply.

A K9 was deployed and the suspect immediately shot and killed the dog. Deputy Gibson was shot and killed. The suspect continued to fire at deputies who returned fire, killing the suspect.
