Las Cruces, NM – Authorities say a New Mexico State Police Officer was shot and killed, and several other officers were injured in a gunfight on Thursday.

The initial incident occurred near Interstate 10 near milepost 101 in Luna County. Police say the police officer was shot and killed, and the suspect then fled in a white truck.

Las Cruces police responded and a pursuit began. The suspect got out his truck and opened fire on an officer while a bystander was videoing the incident.

The suspect was shot and killed at the ending point of the pursuit. Several officers from multiple agencies were involved, and several were injured, including a Las Cruces Police Officer who was also shot.

There is limited information on the details of injuries, and the officer killed has not been identified. Check back for updates.

Authorities have identified the murdered officer as 28-year-old Darian Jarrott. Jarrott was sworn in as a New Mexico State Police Officer in 2015. He leaves behind three small children and was expecting his fourth child this year.
