Sunrise, Florida – Two FBI Agents were fatally shot and three more were wounded this morning while serving a warrant in a child exploitation case.
The shooting occurred at about 6AM at an apartment at 10100 Reflections Blvd. Authorities say the suspect barricaded himself for several hours after the shooting and is believed to have shot and killed himself.
FBI Director Christopher A. Wray identified them as Special Agent Daniel Alfin, 32, and Special Agent Laura Schwartzenberger, 33.
“Every day, FBI Special Agents put themselves in harm’s way to keep the American people safe,” a statement from the FBI director read. “Special Agent Alfin and Special Agent Schwartzenberger exemplified heroism today in defense of their country. The FBI will always honor their ultimate sacrifice and will be forever grateful for their bravery. We continue to stand by our FBI Family, and the families of these Special Agents, in the days to come, bringing every resource we can to get through this together.”
The unidentified shooter was suspected of child pornography possession.
Two of the three agents who were wounded were transported to local hospitals and are in stable condition. This is an ongoing investigation.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the agents families and agency.
