On Wednesday, The Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita announced that he is launching an investigation into censorship from five big tech companies.
The companies being investigated include Apple, Amazon, Google, Twitter and Facebook. The investigation will be conducted to see if these companies, “have potentially harmed Indiana consumers through business practices that are abusive, deceptive and/or unfair.”
“In a free society, few assets are more important to consumers than access to information and the opportunity to express political viewpoints in meaningful forums. It is potentially harmful and unfair for these companies to manipulate content in ways they do not publicly discuss or that consumers do not fully understand.” – Attorney General Rokita
Allegedly part of the investigation also includes looking into the actions taken by Attorney Vanita Gupta, Biden’s nominee for U.S. Attorney General, who encouraged big tech censorship of right wing political views. Reportedly Gupta had met with Twitter and Facebook to encourage this type of enforcement and had also written a letter to Zuckerberg to encourage content moderation.
The investigation by Rokita could ultimately lead to a lawsuit against the companies being investigated.
