Hutchinson, MN. – A Hutchinson Police Officer was assaulted and dragged by a truck after attempting to make an arrest on Wednesday.  Hutchinson is approximately 60 miles west of Minneapolis.

Authorities say the officer, identified as 31-year-veteran Steven Sickmann, attempted to pulled over a man who assaulted an employee at the Menards store with a piece of lumber after being asked to wear a mask.

The vehicle did not yield initially, and a slow speed pursuit began near the Hutchinson Mall until the driver eventually stopped. During the traffic stop, which occurred at 2PM, Officer Sickmann became trapped by the window of the vehicle and the suspect sped away with the Officer still hanging on the side of the truck.

Police say Officer Sickmann was hit in the head with a hammer during the struggle.  He was taken to a local hospital and was treated and released for his injuries.

The suspect, a 61-year-old Luke Oeltjenbruns, was arrested at the scene. He is charged with first-degree assault, two counts of second-degree assault, and one count of fleeing a peace officer.
