Boone , NC- Watauga County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that Sgt. Chris Ward and Deputy Logan Fox were both killed in the line of duty while conducting a welfare check on Wednesday morning. There was a 13 hour standoff with police before the suspect shot and killed his parents and then killed himself.
Initially rescuers were only able to get to Sgt. Ward who was airlifted to a trauma center where he was later pronounced dead. Deputy Fox remained trapped in the home. On Thursday morning it was confirmed that Deputy Fox had succumbed to his wounds while trapped inside the home.
Deputy Fox was a K-9 officer with Watauga County Sheriff’s Office and he had been with the department for 2 years.
Sgt. Chris Ward was an 8 year veteran with law enforcement and he leaves behind a wife and two children.

The suspect has been identified as 32 year old Isaac Alton Barnes.
