Long Island, NY – A man dressed in all black walked into the upstairs office area of a Stop & Shop on Tuesday morning and opened fire, killing one person and injuring two others before fleeing the scene.

According to witnesses the suspect, Gabriel DeWitt Wilson, fled the scene carrying a handgun. Wilson has employment ties to Stop & Shop but it is unclear if he is a current employee. After a 4 hour manhunt, police were able to apprehend Wilson and take him into custody around 3 pm.

Details on Wilson’s apprehension have not been released and police are awaiting a search warrant to search Wilson’s apartment to look for the gun they believe was used during the shooting at the Stop & Shop.

It is unclear if the individuals who were shot were specifically targeted. However, all of the individuals shot were employees at the Stop & Shop. The individual who was killed was a 49 year old male. The two other individuals who were shot were taken to a local hospital and and have been cooperating with law enforcement. No information has been released about the extent of their injuries.

Stop & Shop released a statement about the incident

“Our hearts go out to the families of the victims, our associates, customers and the first responders who have responded heroically to this tragic situation,” the statement continued. “At this time, we are cooperating fully with local law enforcement on the investigation. The store will remain closed until further notice, and we appreciate the Long Island community’s support during this difficult time.” – Stop & Shop
