New Jersey Democrat Governor Phil Murphy is reportedly considering giving about $40 million of stimulus payments to illegal immigrants in his state. This policy would be funded with federal CARES Act money.
Politico reported Murphy is considering an executive action to provide the one-time stimulus funding to illegal immigrants.
Unfortunately, New Jersey wouldn’t be the first to give funding to illegal immigrants. New York recently announced a plan to provide $2.1 billion from the state budget for undocumented immigrants. Payments in New York could be up to $15,600 in a one-time payment.
In 2020, California spent $125 million giving illegal immigrants one-time payments of $500.
The Daily Kos reported on immigrant workers in New Jersey who are on hunger strikes demanding their state leaders “act on pandemic relief.”
