San Antonio, TX. – A police officer was shot in the hand and two suspects were shot and killed after a traffic stop on San Antonio’s west side today. A third person was wounded during the incident.
During a news conference this afternoon, San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said he reviewed bodycam footage of the shooting and it showed the officer pulling over a truck, but the reason for the stop is not yet clear. Initially, the officer began a “casual conversation” with three people inside the truck.
McManus said after about two minutes, the video showed the driver brandish a firearm and began to shoot at the officer, who was struck in the hand. The officer retreated and returned fire, shooting and killing the driver and the front seat passenger. A female passenger in the backseat was also struck in the torso and taken to the hospital.
The unidentified officer has been with the department for five years. The occupants of the vehicle have also yet to be identified.
This is an ongoing investigation.
