Riverside, CA. – A murder suspect led Southern California police on a pursuit for over an hour on Tuesday night. The suspect was stopped when a hero truck driver intervened and blocked the suspect with his semi-truck.

Fox 11 Los Angeles’ Bill Melugin caught up with the truck driver, Ahmed Shabaan, who told him he tried to end the dangerous pursuit by blocking the pickup truck’s path. Shabaan said he knew a murder suspect was involved in the chase so he tracked the driver, lined the big rig truck so the suspect’s pickup truck would smash into the massive vehicle near an intersection in the Pomona area. “I just thought to get him off the street,” Shabaan told Melugin. “If I didn’t, and [officers] have been behind him for that long and didn’t stop him… I have the power.”

It all began with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department located a murder suspect in their area.  When deputies attempted to contact the suspect, he attacked a deputy and fled in a truck, triggering a pursuit.

The suspect led deputies on a chase throughout Southern California. It began in Riverside County, moved south to San Diego County, and back north to Los Angeles County. The suspect could be seen driving at speeds of up to 90 MPH on surface streets.
