Mesquite, TX. – Mesquite Police say a 16-year-old is being charged in connection of the death of K9 Officer Kozmo.

Authorities say K9 Kozmo was assisting Balch Springs Police search for a felony suspect when he was killed early Monday morning.

Kozmo was off-leash and tracking suspects.  Officers located the suspects, but could not find Kozmo.  Police say they found the dog dead after an extensive search.  A Necropsy confirmed Kozmo died after sustaining “trauma consistent with an assault.”

Police then charged a 16-year-old male with interference with a police animal causing death, a second-degree felony.
