Dr. Anthony Fauci spoke out on Monday to say that he supports vaccine mandates for children. He said this in response to the FDA trying to fast-track its approval for children ages 5-11 to get the Pfizer shot.
“Subject to the FDA’s careful review, a vaccine for children ages 5-11 could be available as soon as the end of October,” said Scott Gottlieb, the former FDA Commissioner-turned-Pfizer-board-of-directors.
“Would you support schools mandating the COVID vaccine for kids?” Fauci was asked later that day during an appearance on MSNBC.
“People think that having children be required to get vaccination is a very novel thing — it isn’t,” Fauci said in response. “Right now, if you want to go to many schools, most public schools, you’ve got to be vaccinated for measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis.”
“So it’s nothing new. When you hear, ‘would I be in favor of mandating?’ In fact, I would be, but that gets taken out of context like I’m trying to impose some novel, new restriction on somebody, of taking away their rights,” he continued. “Look at what’s been going on for decades in schools… the requirement for vaccination.”

Fauci previously said that vaccinating children was a “good idea.”
“I believe that mandating vaccines for children to appear in school is a good idea,” Fauci said while appearing on CNN. “We’ve done this for decades and decades, requiring polio, measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis. So this would not be something new requiring vaccinations for children to come to school.”

Earlier this month, Gottlieb had made it clear that vaccinating children is the next goal for Pfizer.
“In a best-case scenario, given that timeline they’ve just laid out, you could potentially have a vaccine available to children aged 5 to 11 by Halloween,” Gottlieb told CBS News . “If everything goes well, the Pfizer data package is in order, and FDA ultimately makes a positive determination, I have confidence in Pfizer in terms of the data that they’ve collected. But this is really up to the Food and Drug Administration to make an objective determination.”
He went on to say that he believes that schools will soon require children to have gotten the COVID-19 vaccine.
“I think you’re going to see more local school districts and governors make those recommendations,” he said. “Eventually, ACIP is going to make a recommendation about whether this should be included in the childhood immunization schedule. My guess is they’re waiting for more of the vaccines to be fully licensed to make that kind of a recommendation. But I would expect this eventually to be required as part of the childhood immunization schedule.”

Adults shouldn’t even be forced to get the COVID-19 vaccine, much less children. We have no idea how this vaccine is going to affect anyone down the road, so it’s nothing short of irresponsible for the FDA even to consider mandating that children of all people get the shot.
