“Mandatory vaccination for the workers of the NHS was legislated to help to safeguard public health. Since we do not intend to punish people, we will introduce an amendment,” – Greek Health Minister Thanos Plevris

Healthcare workers have attempted to fight the mandate from the Greek Government, but have been unsuccessful. All healthcare workers under government guidelines are required to have at least one dose of the vaccine in order to keep their job. The mandate went into effect on September 1.

“Vaccination is imposed for reasons of protection of public health from the spread of the coronavirus to the hospitalized who are a particularly vulnerable group,” – Greek Council Of State

On Thursday hundred of healthcare workers protested the vaccine mandate in Athens and other cities across the country. There is potential that 10,000 healthcare workers could lose their job over the vaccine mandate which would put a huge strain on the healthcare system in Greece. It would impact the quality of care patients receive.

Other countries such as France are considering a similar mandate for all of their healthcare workers which has not been received well.
