Vernon Jones spent more than a decade in the Georgia House of Representatives, as a Democrat. He spent eight years as chief executive officer of DeKalb County, one of the largest counties in Georgia, as a Democrat. He even ran for U.S. Senate, again, as a Democrat. But in 2020, he shocked a lot of people by announcing his endorsement of President Trump’s reelection. Then he went and spoke to the RNC, and switched his party affiliation to Republican. He says he thinks Georgia’s election last fall was tainted, and now he’s launching a primary challenge against Republican governor Brian Kemp because of Kemp’s refusal to call a special legislative session to investigate that election.
Republicans are obviously willing to accept party switchers. Donald Trump himself was one, after all, and we just heard about another from Nurse Belinda a few minutes ago. Still, even for a conservative Democrat, it’s a big shift to go from Obama voter to insurgent conservative primary challenger.
Luckily, I have this platform, so I have an easy way to find out if an America-first conservative is the real deal. I can just invite them to join me on this program, Jones joined me on the show today to discuss.
