Andrew Wiggins Blasts NBA Vaccine Policy After He’s Forced To Get Jab

Yesterday, we reported [1] that Golden State Warriors star Andrew Wiggins, who had long been fighting the NBA’s vaccine policy, had finally relented and gotten the shot over the weekend. However, while talking to the press this week, Wiggins made it clear that he did not get the COVID-19 vaccine willingly.

“It came down to get the vaccination or don’t play basketball,” he told reporters, according to the San Francisco Chronicle [2]. “I’m 26. I have two kids … I’m trying to generate as much money as I can for my kids and my future. Trying to create generational wealth. … Hopefully it works out in the long run [and] in 10 years I’m still healthy.”

Wiggins was clearly trying to rightfully point out that nobody has any idea how these vaccines will impact any of us moving forward in the years to come. Later in the interview, Wiggins slammed the NBA for its vaccine policies.

“I guess to do certain stuff, to work and all that, I guess you don’t own your body,” he said. “You want to work in society today. I guess they make the rules of what goes into your body and what you do.”

Wiggins also seemed to be disappointed in himself for not sticking to his guns when it came to getting this vaccine.

“Hopefully, there’s a lot of people out there that are stronger than me and keep fighting, stand for what they believe, and hopefully it works out for them,” he said.

Wiggins then explained to reporters that he’s been wary about what he puts into his body ever since he had a bad allergic reaction to something a few years ago.

“A couple years ago, I had an allergic reaction to something,” the NBA star stated. “It was a scary moment. I carry an EpiPen now. I know a lot of people get reactions, were getting reactions, or injuries from getting the vaccination.”

Just last week, when he was still unvaccinated, Wiggins indicated to reporters that he was being pressured to get the shot.

“I’m just going to keep all that private right now. … Anything that has to do with my status, vaccination, I’m going to keep it personal, private,” Wiggins went on to add, according to The Athletic [6]. “Back is definitely against the wall. I’m gonna keep fighting for what I believe. What’s right to one person isn’t right to the other and vice versa.”

Yesterday, Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr proudly boasted that Wiggins had gotten the shot.

“Andrew got vaccinated,” Kerr said, according to The Hill [7]. “He just told me today that he was fine with us acknowledging it, and that will be the end of it. I’m not going to answer any questions beyond that.”

Wiggins was put into the extremely unfair position of having to get vaccinated to protect his job. Sadly, there are millions of Americans from all over the country who will be able to relate to what he went through all too well.
