Suspect Captured in Georgia Officer’s Murder, Motive Said to be Retaliation for Arrest of a Friend

ALAMO, GA – On Saturday, we told you about [1] a young officer who was shot and killed during his first shift with the Alamo Police Department. Now, we have more information on the now-captured suspect, 43-year-old Damien “Luke” Anthony Ferguson.

Officer Dylan Harrison, who had been in law enforcement since 2018, was just 26 years old. He was working his first shift as a part-time Alamo Police Officer on Saturday when he was gunned down and killed by Ferguson outside of the Middle Georgia police station.

The motive for the shooting [3] was reported to be Officer Harrison having arrested a friend of Ferguson earlier in the day during a traffic stop. Harrison reportedly contacted the friend in a Circle K parking lot right across the street from APD. The suspect refused to give his identification and a verbal altercation took place.

The suspect pushed Officer Harrison, so the officer attempted to place him under arrest. The suspect resisted arrest, and Harrison tased him. He was placed under arrest and taken to jail.

Ferguson fled after he later shot Officer Harrison, and a manhunt took place to locate him. He was arrested just after 2:30 pm Sunday in his Alamo home, about a mile from where the murder took place.

GBI Special Agent Lindsey Wilkes said, “The man arrested is a known associate of Damien Ferguson. It is believed that the ambush-style attack on Officer Harrison was retaliation for the incident and arrest of the man on Friday night at the Circle K.”

He’s being held at Laurens County Jail in Dublin on charges of murder, as well as aggravated stalking related to a previous domestic incident, police said.
