Marking what might be his first major accomplishment, President Joe Biden, who pushed the massive infrastructure legislation hard, recently signed the supposed $1 trillion bill. But while the Democrats and Biden are praising their efforts, there is a great deal about the bill that is still unknown. One of those little measures that were packed into the bill will supposedly help prevent drunk driving. The safety measure will take effect in five years and will mandate automakers to install a “vehicle kill switch” in every car. As mentioned above, there is a great deal about the legislation that is still being discovered even after it was signed. While Democrats are staying silent on the matter, what is known is that the device will be put in every new vehicle will “passively monitor the performance of a driver of a motor vehicle to accurately identify whether that driver may be impaired.”

Although there is most definitely a reason as to why the new “safety” device wasn’t discussed more, former Representative Bob Barr, who held office from 1995 to 2003, recently wrote an article about the dangers that could come from the new mandatory measure.
Barr noted, “First, use of the word “passively” suggests the system will always be on and constantly monitoring the vehicle. Secondly, the system must connect to the vehicle’s operational controls, so as to disable the vehicle either before driving or during, when impairment is detected. Thirdly, it will be an “open” system, or at least one with a backdoor, meaning authorized (or unauthorized) third-parties can remotely access the system’s data at any time.”

Given the lack of control and privacy implications that could happen, Barr also pointed out that the decision to pass the legislation shows how little Democrats and Congress “care about the privacy of their constituents.” He added, “The lack of ultimate control over one’s vehicle presents numerous and extremely serious safety issues; issues that should have been obvious to Members of Congress before they voted on the measure.”
Seeing no good coming from the mandatory “kill switch”, Barr was sure to mention at its core, the new mandate for automakers is a direct violation of the constitutional rights of all Americans.

Yet another Let’s go Brandon moment. It applies to congress as well as the original target.
It’s like a robocar controlled by Artificial Intelligence?, constantly checks and invade the privacy of the driver and the passengers. Could this [kill-switch] avoid collision and accident?
No, but it can surely cause one. What happens if a hacker takes control of your steering at 70 mph and turns you into the center median? A ditch? A bridge abutment?
As if drunk driving is the only reason they’ll use it.
Since 2009, when Pelosi said “We’ll have to pass the bill to find out what is in it”, Congress has not even LOOKED at what they are passing. Dems don’t care as long as it tears down more of the fabric of America and Repubs are too afraid of being “yelled at” by Dems to stand up to them. The idea of improving the US and helping Americans is completely gone in DC. Every single member of the House and the Senate should be tossed out.
Exactly every single one of them. It’s clear they do not represent us.
nor do our ‘elected’ officials write these bills…
the bureaucracy does…
