The veteran Fox News host Brit Hume spoke out this week to say that it is a “far cry from certain” that President Joe Biden will run for reelection in 2024.
When asked about Biden saying he’ll run again in 2024, Hume said, “I don’t think it’s at all clear that he intends to run again, but I do think that as a political matter, you have to say that.”
“Because if you suggest or hint or outright say that you’re not going to run again, that makes you instantly a lame duck,” he added. “Lame duck presidents don’t do well, their influence wanes overnight. So I think this was boilerplate in a sense, but boilerplate that had to be uttered. I think it’s a far cry from certain he’ll run again or that he’ll be in any condition to. I think the thing we have to watch is the question of whether he serves out his first term.”
Not stopping there, Hume proceeded to double down by calling out Biden for his health.
“He’s clearly deteriorating, he’s clearly senile, and his health is — despite his doctor’s comments to the contrary,” said Hume. “When you’re falling downstairs and so on, as he did climbing the stairs to Air Force One, that’s worrisome.”
Earlier this year, Biden called out “dishonest” PolitiFact for labeling his description of Biden being “senile” as false.
“Elderly people experiencing memory loss and other problems associated with age can go for periods, for hours at a time, and be just fine,” Hume said in September of last year after Biden’s first debate against Trump. “I don’t think there’s any doubt Biden’s senile, but that doesn’t mean it’s going to show up tonight … And now that the expectations for him have been set so low, you know if he comes out and doesn’t drool and gets through everything pretty well, it could end up being quite a boost for him.”
Fox News reported that PolitiFact labeled Hume’s description of Biden as “false,” citing “geriatric experts” before acknowledging that “[s]enility is not a precise medical term but is often used in place of the more precise and accepted medical term of ‘dementia,'” of which the experts said Biden “does not exhibit signs.”

Hume, however, was not having any of it, and he offered a “fact check” of his own.
“Note the sleight of hand in this typically dishonest [fact] check from Politifact,” Hume tweeted. “It notes that ‘senile’ is not a precise term, but then treats my use of it as meaning dementia, and then brings on experts to say Biden doesn’t have dementia.”
“In fact,” Hume later added. “I was using the word in its normal meaning, as per Merriam-Webster: ‘1. : of, relating to, exhibiting, or characteristic of old age senile weakness especially: exhibiting a loss of cognitive abilities (such as memory) associated with old age.'”

In fact I was using the word in its normal meaning, as per Merriam-Webster:
“1. : of, relating to, exhibiting, or characteristic of old age
senile weakness
especially : exhibiting a loss of cognitive abilities (such as memory) associated with old age.”— Brit Hume (@brithume) March 31, 2021
