YouTube has been accused many times of censoring its content, and now it’s taking the censorship a step further.

The platform sent emails to users informing them that dislike counts would no longer be displayed on videos. The dislike count, however, would still be available to view privately by the creator of the video.

The Verge reported, “The company says the change is to keep smaller creators from being targeted by dislike attacks or harassment, and to promote ‘respectful interactions between viewers and creators.’ The dislike button will still be there, but it’ll be for private feedback, rather than public shaming.”

The idea is, it’s reported, that people are less likely to click “dislike” when they don’t see a number go up after they do.

Many on other social media platforms are questioning the move after Joe Biden and other White House officials have garnered so many “dislikes” as to essentially cause an embarrassment for the highest political position in the United States.
