Last week, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced that a shortened isolation period for Covid patients could come “soon.” Now, they have followed through and cut the isolation period in half.

Where previously positive patients would have to isolate for 10 days, that time has now been cut down to only five days. if they’re asymptomatic, followed by five days of masking when around other people.

CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said, “CDC’s updated recommendations for isolation and quarantine balance what we know about the spread of the virus and the protection provided by vaccination and booster doses. These updates ensure people can safely continue their daily lives.”

Last Wednesday, the UK reduced their required quarantine time from 10 days to seven.

The Omicron strand reportedly now accounts for approximately 73% of Covid cases in the United States.

It’s unknown if the CDC reduced this time requirement by following their mantra to “follow the science,” or if they’ve caved to pressure from experts and businesses speaking with common sense. For example, Delta Air Lines Chief Executive Ed Bastian said last week, “With the rapid spread of the Omicron variant, the 10-day isolation for those who are fully vaccinated may significantly impact our workforce and operations.”

This is also “similar to healthcare, police, fire, and public transportation workforces, the Omicron surge may exacerbate shortages and create significant disruptions,” Bastian said in a letter to the CDC.

In an email to The New York Post, Dr. Marty Makary, a professor at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, said “the Biden administration needs to be more practical and less rigid.”

Makary continued, “It’s not feasible in the hospital, for example, to have staff leave their post for 10 days every time they think they’ve been exposed.”

Red Voice Media would like to make a point of clarification on why we do not refer to any shot related to COVID-19 as a "vaccine." According to the CDC, the definition of a vaccine necessitates that said vaccine have a lasting effect of at least one year in preventing the contraction of the virus or disease it's intended to fight. Because all of the COVID-19 shots thus far available have barely offered six months of protection, and even then not absolute, Red Voice Media has made the decision hereafter to no longer refer to the Pfizer, Moderna, or Johnson & Johnson substances as vaccinations.
