CHICAGO, IL – A police sergeant with the Chicago Police Department is currently under investigation for daring to support the formation of a conservative young adult group at a local high school.

What’s more, the sergeant is an active member of the Republican party as a chairperson of the 41st Ward. This makes it not only appropriate, but expected that she would support groups forming that align with her political beliefs, which have nothing to do with her work as a police sergeant.
Sergeant Ammie Kessem made a Facebook post in support of a Turning Point USA chapter being formed at William Howard Taft High School, calling the students “brave” for attempting to form the group. Additionally, her daughter attends said high school.
Sergeant Kessem is being investigated internally for her comments supporting the formation of the Turning Point USA group. “Some brave students will be creating this Chapter of Turning Point USA tomorrow at William Howard Taft High School which is located on the Northwest side of Chicago in the 41st Ward,” Sergeant Kessem said in her post. “I could not be more proud of them.”

Kessum did not post herself supporting Turning Point USA or the Republican Party while in uniform, suggesting that the Chicago Police Department does not feel Kessum is allowed to exercise her First Amendment rights in her personal life. It’s not an outrageous leap to suggest that perhaps she is being discriminated against because of her association with a right of center political group, and because of her open disapproval of the Democratic Mayor Lori Lightfoot on the same Facebook page.
“In a city where Liberal Progressives have continually and unjustifiably attacked the characters of conservatives,” her post continued, “including myself and my children, by calling us ‘Nazis’, ‘White Supremists’ and outright ‘racists’, I am certain these students realize that this will almost certainly be scrutinized by the administration at this school which seems to embrace the Marxist views of a substantial amount of the Chicago Teacher’s union members.
“Please help support them and their cause by posting some encouraging messages on this page. I will be sure to pass it along to them. We must not give up on our youth. Please and thank you.”
Turning Point USA is a nationwide organization founded by Charlie Kirk that stands for America, the United States Constitution, and capitalism. Per its website, “Turning Point USA’s mission is to educate students about the importance of fiscal responsibility, free markets, and limited government. TPUSA activists are the community organizers of the right.”
Signs for the group read things like “Free Speech Has No Zone In America,” “Socialism Sucks,” and “Educate Don’t Mandate.” In October of this year, Kirk went on a tour called Exposing Critical Racism where he discussed the dangers of Critical Race Theory. The above topics are all sore spots for left-of-center politicians and activists pushing their Marxist agenda on students in public schools, which is likely the real reason for the “investigation.”
Ironically, Turning Point USA, as a conservative organization, stands to support police and many chapters were active in the “back the blue” movement at its height when the left was screaming to “defund the police.”
Turning Point USA also stands for medical freedom, another topic of political contention from the left.

The Chicago Police Department website is full of posts on the importance of community policing, but clearly that’s only if it’s a “community” that the leftist politicians agree with.
Kessem did not remove the post from her Facebook page since the “investigation” was announced. She did, however, limit comments on the post.
William Howard Taft Assistant Principal Melissa Hess released a statement on Twitter following the announcement that Turning Point would be forming a chapter at the high school. She said, “We were disturbed to learn that an organization promoting racial intolerance has been associated with our school. We are a community built on respect and inclusion, and one that rejects any organization that would seek to discriminate on the basis of race, religion, gender, disability, sexual orientation, or anything else.
“All student organizations must align with the Taft mission statement, which is to “educate global citizens to create a better world. Please know that the staff and administration at Taft will never tolerate the formation of any group that does not support these values.”
Standing for Constitutional rights, freedoms, traditional family values, American values, unity, equality (but not equity), supporting the police and the military…these are the values that Turning Point espouses.
These are also the reasons CPD is investigating a sergeant of police who is active in her community and supporting the next generation.
No wonder staffing levels are so low at that department.
