America has more than 1.3 million lawyers, but almost none of them do any good for this country. Talk to almost any one of them, and they’ll tell you the importance of our adversarial system of justice and ensuring that everybody gets their day in court. They’ll tell you how the American legal system protects people’s rights from overreach and tyranny.
But most of them don’t really believe it. And you can tell because the vast majority of lawyers are doing nothing about the hideous mistreatment and railroading of the January 6 protesters, who are still being treated like subhuman garbage and domestic terrorists regardless of what they did on that day (and in the vast majority of cases, “what they did” was nothing).
Bill Ayers built actual bombs and put them in the Capitol building. Today, he’s an old chum of Barack Obama and treated as a distinguished academic. There are hundreds of thousands of lawyers who would be happy to do a case for him; thousands would probably do it for free. Richard Barnett put his feet on Nancy Pelosi’s desk and is treated as the leader of an insurrection, and he’s treated as an untouchable by the lawyer caste.
Joe McBride is the exception. He’s a former Manhattan public defender, and now he’s serving as the attorney for Barnett and four other January 6 defendants. McBride has done more than anyone to expose the treatment of January 6 political prisoners, who are being subjected to what he says is torture. McBride has been the lawyer willing to say what is blindingly obvious, but ignored even by most “conservative” writers: The January 6 defendants have been targeted for financial destruction, physical torment, and personal humiliation because they are ideological enemies of the government.
