According to reports, former President Trump’s widely anticipated social media platform “TRUTH Social” will come already baked-in with a content moderation function that Trump Media & Technology Group CEO Devin Nunes claims will keep the platform “family friendly.”
Reportedly both former President Trump and Trump Media & Technology Group CEO Nunes have claimed that the social media platform will go live by the end of the first quarter of 2022.
However, individuals who are involved in the final stages of the development of the platform revealed that content moderation – a.k.a., censorship – will be part of the complete package when TRUTH Social goes lives.
Trump Media & Technology Group have apparently partnered up with San Francisco-based company Hive, which offers automated cloud-based AI solutions that can scan the likes of videos, images, and text and moderate based upon established parameters.
Apparently, Trump Media & Technology Group insiders have proclaimed that they’re concerned that bad actors will come to TRUTH Social in droves and try to “flood” the social media platform with “illegal content,” thus attempting to justify the content moderation AI implementation.
CEO Nunes reiterated the sentiment of blocking “illegal content,” saying he wants the platform to be “a very safe space” for all who join.
“We want to be very family-friendly, we want this to be a very safe place, and we are focused on making sure any illegal content is not on the site. Hive has a great track record in this, and they have been good to work with. They are very helpful for our team and because of their experience, I think they’re helping to craft the right spot for us. We want to be the most family-friendly site.”
Yet, TRUTH Social’s content moderation AI will not solely be blocking “illegal content,” according to Hive co-founder and CEO Kevin Guo. The tech company CEO stated that their technology will also block postings on TRUTH Social that contain sexually explicit content, violence, bullying, spam, and hate speech.
Guo claimed that the Trump Media & Technology Group have “been proactive” when it comes to what they want censored on the platform, adding “For them, moderation has always been core. They have been very thoughtful about this.”
And Guo added that this partnership with Trump Media & Technology Group is hardly something novel, stating that they’ve been working together for months crafting their censorship policies and practices.
“From the very beginning of product design, they have had moderation as a core concept that they’ve been building around, so, our integration with them certainly is not one they have put in last minute, or after the fact. They have been very thoughtful and very proactive with this, and when they launch, moderation will be fully in place on day one.”
The manner in which Nunes described the content moderation bears a striking similarity to how GETTR approaches the matter as well, claiming that no one will be censored “because they have a different opinion about, for example, a COVID vaccine.”
“That is what the open internet is all about—it should be for the free flow of debate and ideas all over the globe, so that people can learn from one another and debate with one another. And society should be better for it if it is working properly.”
