On January 15th, services were being livestreamed at the Congregation Beth Israel synagogue before being cut off shortly before 2:00 p.m. local time after an unidentified individual allegedly took four hostages [4], including a rabbi, inside of the building.
While officials haven’t confirmed who the suspect is, Fox News correspondent Trey Yingst says [5] sources proclaim that the individual is the brother of a woman known as Aafia Siddiqui, who is currently in prison.
“Reports indicate the hostage-taker is the brother of Aafia Siddiqui,” Fox reported. “Siddiqui is serving an 86-year sentence for attempting to kill U.S. military personnel. She was previously married to the nephew of 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed.”
The suspect is reportedly armed and has told authorities that they’ve established explosives in various, unknown locations.
While the Facebook livestream was still running before being cut off, commenters online noted they could hear a angry sounding man yelling profanities and shouting about Islam – also at times mentioning his sister.
Colleyville Police have been sharing updates on the situation via Twitter, initially sharing [7] that “all residents in the immediate area are being evacuated” and instructing people to avoid the 6100 block of Pleasant Run Road. The latest update from Colleyville Police noted the situation is still active.
“UPDATE 1/15/22, 2:20 PM The situation at the 6100 block of Pleasant Run Road posted about earlier remains ongoing. We ask that you continue to avoid the area. We will continue to provide updates via social media,” the police posted to Twitter.

The man believed to be Siddiqui’s brother was also heard saying on the livestream “I am going to die. Don’t cry for me.”
It’s unclear at this time exactly how many people were attending the services before the incident erupted, but reports indicate that negotiations are taking place between authorities and the suspect. The Department of Homeland Security have been briefed [4] and the FBI is also on the scene of the incident.
