With the 2022 midterm elections predicted to sway heavily for the GOP, there were rumors circulating Washington, D.C. that lifelong Democrat and current Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, was contemplating retiring. There was even a story about her eyeing property in Florida as several other Democrats had already announced they would not be running for reelection come November. But although Pelosi is 81 years old, on Tuesday, she announced that come this fall, she will be seeking reelection in California.

Sharing her announcement on Twitter, as all politicians do, Pelosi posted a video of her sitting in front of a fake California backdrop. The Speaker said, “Hello, it’s Nancy. Thank you for the opportunity to share some thoughts with you, our VIPs, our Volunteers in Politics, in our ongoing engagement for the people. Thank you for being a constant source of new, fresh ideas and political activism to help Democrats deliver and defend democracy. Thank you for giving me the privilege to represent our city and our San Francisco values in the Congress.” 

While we have made progress much more needs to be done to improve people’s lives. This election is crucial: nothing less is at stake than our Democracy.

Pelosi added, “Human rights, reproductive justice, LGBTQ equality, respect for immigrants, and care for each other. When people ask me what are the three most important issues facing Congress, I always say the same thing: Our children. Our children. Our children. Their health, their education, the housing and economic security of their families, a clean, safe environment in which they can thrive, and the world at peace and where they are all welcome and in which they can reach their fulfillment.”

And being sure to spread a little “fear porn,” Pelosi concluded, “Our democracy is at risk because of assaults on the truth, the assault on the U.S. Capitol, and the state-by-state assault on voting rights. This election is crucial. Nothing less is at stake than our democracy. But as we say: We don’t agonize, we organize. And that is why I am running for reelection to Congress and respectfully seek your support. I’d be greatly honored by it and grateful for it. Thank you so much.”

While Pelosi’s time in D.C. might not be over, users online noticed that the representation of California appeared to be a little off, so they decided to help out.

Another video that was posted showed the city behind Pelosi burning to the ground as she tried to convey her American values to her “VIPs”. 

Skipping the video altogether, one user just posted the picture of Pelosi with the caption: “Fool House.”
