Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) is claiming that he’s the one who convinced former President Donald Trump that holding a press conference on the anniversary of the January 6 riot was a “bad idea.”
Graham told Axios that he had told Trump that “there could be peril in doing a news conference.”
“Best to focus on election reform instead,” Graham claimed to have told Trump.
Graham’s office later told The Hill that the senator “offered his advice. The decision to put off was President Trump’s.”
This came after Trump suddenly canceled his press conference on Tuesday night.
“In light of the total bias and dishonesty of the January 6th Unselect Committee of Democrats, two failed Republicans, and the Fake News Media, I am canceling the January 6th Press Conference at Mar-a-Lago on Thursday, and instead will discuss many of those important topics at my rally on Saturday, January 15th, in Arizona – It will be a big crowd!” Trump said.
Fox News host Laura Ingraham had suggested on her show on Monday night that she felt that Trump holding a press conference on the anniversary of the riot was not a “smart idea.”
“Some things were horrific that happened and shouldn’t have happened that day. … Is it smart for President Trump to do a rally on that particular day, versus next week or the week before?” she asked Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN).
“President Trump has important things to say on Thursday, on Jan. 6,” Banks added. “And like so many others, I’m looking forward to hearing what President Trump has to say.”
Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has big plans for the anniversary of the riot, including a moment of silence, a prayer vigil, and a chance for lawmakers to share testimonials from their experiences that day.
“These events are intended as an observance of reflection, remembrance and recommitment, in a spirit of unity, patriotism and prayerfulness,” Pelosi wrote in a letter to lawmakers, according to The Hill. “All events will be live-streamed, so that Members can watch and participate from their districts.”
Clearly, Democrats are continuing to shamelessly use the January 6 riot to smear conservatives everywhere. It’s a shame that Trump allowed himself to be talked out of holding his press conference, as he could have used it to call out Democrats on their nonsense.
