Pharr Police arrested 18-year-olds Alejandro Trevino, Christian Trevino, and Juan Eduardo Melendez for their involvement in the alleged murder of 42-year-old Gabriel Quintanilla. Authorities discovered his body in a field on January 20th.

Authorities say that Quintanilla had suffered apparent blunt force trauma [3] to the head, which investigators purport was the result of numerous physical confrontations involving the decedent and the suspects. Police believe that brass knuckles may have been used during the fatal assault.

A press release from the Pharr Police Department notes that the Trevino brothers had learned that their nine-year-old sister had allegedly been sexually assaulted by Quintanilla, and thus “they became enraged and confronted Gabriel Quintanilla at the residence.”

Alejandro and Christian Trevino had allegedly gotten into a physical altercation with Quintanilla, which Quintanilla was able to eventually escape the area on foot. Police say the two brothers then met up with Melendez who drove them all to an apartment complex where they’d located Quintanilla once again and launched another assault.

Apparently, the trio had then left the area in a Dodge Charger and returned with a truck where they allegedly launched a third assault on Quintanilla and loaded him into the back of the truck. Investigators suspect that Quintanilla may have still been alive by the time his body was dumped in the field.

It should be noted that at the time of Quintanilla’s death, he had active warrants for his arrest under charges of continuous sexual abuse of a child and assault – family violence.

Nonetheless, the three teenage suspects are facing a litany of serious charges, with bail having been set at $1 million each for their respective charges.

Melendez was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, murder, possession of marijuana, and engaging in organized criminal activity

Christian Trevino was charged with aggravated assault, murder, and engaging in organized criminal activity. His brother, Alejandro, was engaging in organized criminal activity and aggravated assault but avoided a murder charge as investigators believe that Christian and Melendez dealt the fatal blows.
