For at least 19 hours, motorists in Northern Virginia were trapped when a winter storm unleashed close to a foot of snow that caused power outages, trees to topple, and for Interstate 95 to become completely gridlocked. With both northbound and southbound exits leading up to Washington D.C. closed, hundreds of people were left stranded as temperatures continued to drop. But while Americans fight mother nature, inflation, and COVID-19, Vice President Kamala Harris, who recently vacationed in Los Angeles, California, decided to tweet out that America was moving once again.
Completely oblivious as to what is happening in the country, Harris tweeted on Tuesday, “Because of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, America is moving again. That’s what infrastructure is all about: getting people moving.”

Although Harris’s tweet was not meant as a jab to those who were fighting the frigid temperatures and the snow, it couldn’t have come at a worse time. Given the status she hold, many believed that Harris should have a better understanding as to what is happening in the country she supposedly helps lead.
Among the mountain of backlash she received, one was from Virginia Democrat Sen. Tim Kaine, who was actually stuck on the highway. “I started my normal 2 hour drive to DC at 1pm yesterday. 19 hours later, I’m still not near the Capitol. My office is in touch with @VaDOT to see how we can help other Virginians in this situation. Please stay safe everyone.”
Trying to remedy the situation, an engineer with the Virginia Department of Transportation’s Fredericksburg district, Marcie Parker, said, “We know many travelers have been stuck on Interstate 95 in our region for extraordinary periods of time over the past 24 hours, in some cases since Monday morning. This is unprecedented, and we continue to steadily move stopped trucks to make progress toward restoring lanes.”
