A statement from the Defense Department noted that the among the troops deploying “in the coming days” will be an armored brigade combat team with “associated capabilities and enablers.”

President Biden told reporters at the White House on February 24th that he’d been in contact with Defense Department officials about the deployment, noting that said deployment is meant to assist “our NATO allies.”

“I’ve also spoken with Defense Secretary Austin and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs General Milley about preparations for additional moves, should they become necessary to protect our NATO allies and support the greatest military alliance in the history of the world, NATO.”

While President Biden proclaimed that the deployment is intended to help our NATO allies, he added that these troops will not “be engaged in the conflict” that is taking place in Ukraine.

A Defense Department official proclaimed while speaking to the press that the actions taken by Russia in Ukraine are an attempt at “decapitating the government” so that Russia can install their own government within Ukraine, a notion that conflicts with comments made [5] by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg has reportedly called for a summit of NATO leaders [6] to take place on February 25th.

Stoltenberg stated on February 24th that the actions by Russia were part of a “long-planned invasion” of Ukraine, adding that the military strikes effectively “shattered” the peace of Europe.

“Russia has attacked Ukraine. This is a brutal act of war. Our thoughts are with the brave people of Ukraine. Peace on our continent has been shattered. This is a deliberate, cold-blooded and long-planned invasion. Russia is using force to try to rewrite history.”
