It seems as though now even the torchbearers of leftism are aware that they created a problem that will eventually swallow them up, as the hosts of The Young Turks spoke candidly about their concern over using the word “dwarf” in one of their recent segments.
The segment in question was uploaded on February 9th, where The Young Turks hosts Cenk Uygar and Ana Kasparian were discussing the disdain that actor Peter Dinklage has regarding a remake of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves.
Dinklage had expressed his annoyance over the new remake getting a sort of progressive makeover with Snow White being portrayed by a Latina, but yet it still is a film that he clearly feels somewhat snubs the dwarf community.
While Kasparian was about to comment on the story, she paused briefly and delved into whether it is even appropriate for her to use the word “dwarf.”
“By the way, I’m going to be honest with you guys – I’m going to be super authentic and vulnerable here – I don’t know if it’s even okay to say dwarf. Like, is that okay? I don’t know – I don’t want this to come back to bite me in the ass like ten years later.”
Uygar chimed in, saying, “That’s exactly what I was going to say,” and explicitly detailed the pipeline of how language that is appropriate to use in modern times winds up getting people canceled years down the road when the old verbiage is deemed problematic.
“Will they later change the rule? Very likely. Will they then have video compilations of us saying the word and hold us guilty in hindsight? Of course, they will. And so, am I referring to the Left? Yes, I am.”
