PHILADELPHIA, PA – A 30-year-old man was mercilessly gunned down earlier in May by two unknown assailants who emerged from a red sedan and shot the victim in broad daylight at a Philadelphia gas station. The fatal shooting now leaves the mother of the victim questioning why this happened, and a five-year-old girl without her father.
The incident occurred on May 9th at approximately 2:00 p.m. at the Liberty gas station located off the 1000 block of East Mount Airy Avenue. Surveillance video shows the victim, identified as 30-year-old Brandon Dixon, walking out of the gas station convenience store, and walking toward a silver SUV parked alongside one of the gas pumps.
While Dixon is standing at the gas pump, a red sedan whips around in the parking lot before stopping in front of the gas pumps, with two assailants then exiting the vehicle and opening fire on an unsuspecting Dixon. The victim tried to run from the two shooters, but Dixon sadly was struck by gunfire in the head and face and succumbed to his injuries while responding officers tried rushing him to an area hospital.
Police have yet to make any arrests in the case, but the vehicle used in the fatal shooting was described as a 2009 red Mazda3 sedan with New Jersey license plate reading “V62-PWX.”
The victim’s mother, Lisa Dixon, spoke with a local Fox News outlet about her son’s murder, detailing the grief she’s navigating while also trying to understand why someone would want to kill her son.
“I feel like my heart has been snatched out of my whole body…I don’t know who is raising these children, but they don’t care. They have no empathy in them, they have no nothing in them, they don’t care. And they took my baby’s life…Having a child taken from you is just unbelievable.”
Lisa is hoping something is done about the alarming levels of violence in Philadelphia, telling the outlet, “Because our kids is dying. They’re dying every day – three, four times a day. They’re just dying.”
The distraught mother told the outlet that her son wasn’t into any shady business that would call for him to be gunned down the way he was, saying, “I would put my hand on the Bible, my son…he was not into anything, he was not.”
Another casualty in the senseless murder is the five-year-old girl who has been robbed of her father. Lisa, standing beside her young granddaughter, stated, “She said, ‘I’m not going to see my dad anymore,’ and I told her, I said, ‘Well, he’s here with us. He’s always going to be here with us.’ And I said, ‘Everything is going to be alright; we’re going to get through this.’”
