WASHINGTON, DC – A watchdog organization recently released an explosive new report detailing that Anthony Fauci, Francis Collins, and numerous other top dogs at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) allegedly benefitted from over $350 million in “royalty” payments from the likes of drug companies and third parties over a 10-year period.

The watchdog organization in question is OpenTheBooks.com, who describes their mission as working “to capture and post all disclosed spending at every level of government – federal, state, and local.”

On May 9th, the organization released a report dubbed “Fauci’s Royalties And The $350 Million Royalty Payment Stream HIDDEN By NIH,” where the group estimated that between the fiscal years of 2010 and 2020, Fauci and others at the NIH collectively reaped over $350 million in kickbacks from various drug companies and the ilk.

Per the report, these kickbacks handed over to NIH officials and scientists were due to them being “credited as co-inventors” for various drugs, with the report adding, “Because those payments enrich the agency and its scientists, each and every royalty payment could be a potential conflict of interest and needs disclosure.”

OpenTheBooks.com had filed a federal lawsuit against the NIH which resulted in the agency having to turn over documents affording details of “over 22,100 royalty payments totaling nearly $134 million paid to the agency and nearly 1,700 NIH scientists.”

These thousands of payments reportedly occurred between September of 2009 through September of 2014, which were detailed across approximately 1,200 pages handed over by the agency. Yet, the NIH admits to having a total of 3,000 pages of these royalties, with the years 2015 through 2020 being detailed on the remaining 1,800 pages.

However, OpenTheBooks.com has yet to receive these remaining 1,800 pages from the NIH – but by extrapolating the figures detailed from the five years’ of data they’ve received so far, the watchdog organization believes the total royalties to be in the realm of over $350 million.

But therein lies one other issue with these secretive kickbacks: While the NIH documents detailed the total sum of these royalties and how many payments each individual received, the specific dollar amount of each individual payment was redacted.

For instance, documents showed that Fauci received 23 individual royalty payments, but it’s a mystery as to what these payments to Fauci totaled up to. With Collins, it was 14 payments. And Fauci’s deputy at the NAID, Clifford Lane, benefitted from eight payments.

In fact, the NIH redacted quite a bit of the information, as the report from OpenTheBooks.com noted, “The agency erased 1. the payment amount, and, 2. who paid it!  This makes the court-mandated production virtually worthless, despite our use of the latest forensic auditing tools.”

For some reason, as pointed out by the watchdog organization, the “NIH is acting like royalty payments are a state secret.”
