CHARLESTON, SC – Democratic Rep. Krystle Matthews was confronted by Project Veritas earlier in June regarding the audio leaked by the news organization that revealed the congresswoman asking about having people use “dope money” for campaign contributions.

On February 15th, Democratic state Rep. Matthews called an inmate housed at the Perry Correctional Facility in South Carolina, where she discussed her run for US Senate with inmate David Soloman Ballard.

On the call, Ballard asked Rep. Matthews what he could do to help her with her campaign, to which the congresswoman answered that they needed to embed candidates to run as Republicans but secretly serve the Democratic agenda.

“You gotta find some folks that a little bit polished. Maybe are not, you know, nobody really knows them that well, maybe they haven’t really been politically active. But we need some secret sleepers. Like you need, we need them to run as the other side, even though they for our side, and we need them to win…Because that’s how, like, I mean, we can, we can battle them in public all day. As long as we know we working for the same goal. You know, I tell my colleagues up here all the time, I’m gonna be that bitch every day of the week.”

Later on during the recorded call to the correctional facility, Rep. Matthews alleged that black Republicans are somehow not black simply because they don’t align with her perspectives or sought after policies.

“We have too many people that, that ain’t us. Ain’t out for us and look like us…I mean, honestly, these ain’t the same type of black people I grew up around. I don’t recognize these black people.”

The Democratic congresswoman also urged Ballard to use ill gotten gains from drug sales and donate it to her campaign for U.S. Senate, even suggesting that Ballard illegally funnel the funds via straw donations under other people’s names.

“And I still gotta struggle to raise money for my campaign? Where the fuck is my black people with money? I don’t care about no dope money. Give me that dope boy money. Shit, where the fucking dope? Where the duffel bag boys? Get you – find me somebody from your family that don’t even know you donating to my campaign and put that shit under they names.”

In the wake of the leaked audio, Rep. Matthews (who won the Democratic primary to face off against sitting Republican Sen. Tim Scott) defended her comments made on the call, calling it “tongue in-cheek” banter.

Project Veritas’ R.C. Maxwell decided to pay Rep. Matthews a visit to see if she really does stand by her comments made during the phone call. However, while she was awfully chatty during a Facebook livestream defending her statements on the February phone call, she clearly didn’t have much to say when face to face with Project Veritas.
