SMITHSBURG, MD – Multiple people are reported dead after a shooting at a manufacturing plant in the 12900 block of Bikle Road in Smithsburg, Maryland Thursday.

Washington County Sheriff’s Office said that around 2:30pm, they received a report of an active shooter at Columbia Machine. They said the incident resulted in “multiple fatalities.”

Apparently, a Maryland State Police trooper shot the suspect, who has not been identified at the time of this writing. The suspect was taken to a hospital in unknown condition.

The trooper also reportedly suffered a minor injury, but no further details have been release on that at this time.

While no other information has been released, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office did say, “The suspect is no longer a threat to the community.” The scene is still active as police investigate the incident.
