WYOMING – During Tuesday’s primary election in Wyoming, Liz Cheney, who claims to be a Republican but whose actions and votes say otherwise, was defeated. As predicted, Harriet Hageman, who had former President Donald Trump’s endorsement, defeated Cheney. She had approximately a 30-point margin over the incumbent.

During her concession speech, Cheney compared herself to America’s great 16th President, Abraham Lincoln, saying that he went on to become president after being defeated for positions in both the Senate and the House. Regarding a 2024 run for president, Cheney said it “is something I’m thinking about, and I’ll make a decision in the coming months.”

“The great and original champion of our party, Abraham Lincoln,” Cheney said, “was defeated in elections for the Senate and the House before he won the most important election of all. Lincoln ultimately prevailed, he saved our union, and he defined our obligation as Americans for all of history.”

There has been previous speculation that she would run for office as an Independent, but she failed to mention, however, that, while she may think she is equal to someone as great at Lincoln, he wasn’t despised by a large portion of the party of which he claimed to be a part of.

Cheney has been outspoken against Trump, saying she was “doing whatever it takes to keep Donald Trump out of the Oval Office.” She has also served as the vice chair of the January 6 committee.

Putting herself even more on the same pedestal as Lincoln, Cheney filed papers overnight with the Federal Election Commission after losing her own election to start a Political Action Committee, which she has named “The Great Task.” This name is in honor of Lincoln’s Gettysburg speech, where he spoke of the great task facing the nation.

Cheney is, of course, one of 10 alleged Republicans who voted in favor of a President Trump impeachment. She is the fourth such representative to have lost their seats in the primary election and the eighth overall to not return to office (four others declined to run again).

“No House seat, no office in this land is more important than the principles that we are all sworn to protect. And I well understood the potential political consequences of abiding by my duty,” she said in her concession speech. “Our republic relies upon the goodwill of all candidates for office to accept, honorably, the outcome of elections. And tonight, Harriet Hageman has received the most votes in this primary. She won. I called her to concede the race.

“If we do not condemn the conspiracies and the lies, if we do not hold those responsible to account, we will be excusing this conduct, and it will become a feature of all elections. America will never be the same.”
