History often repeats itself when it comes to events played out on the world stage. The names and locations might change, but for the most part, the sequence of events is somewhat identical. A few months ago, Russian President Vladimir Putin decided to invade Ukraine. While the Ukrainian military fought off the Russian invasion, Putin has moved forward with claiming four regions within Ukraine. He recently declared to use any means necessary to defend the motherland. Now, Joe Biden admitted that the threat of a nuclear armageddon hasn’t been this high since the Cuban Missile Crisis.
On Thursday, Joe Biden attended a fundraiser for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and spoke on some of the problems currently facing the country. While the Biden administration has been juggling several dilemmas over the last few months, the Democrat warned that the biggest threat comes from Vladimir Putin. Biden, as can be seen in the video below, touched on the Cuban missile crisis and former President John F. Kennedy. “for the first time since the Cuban missile crisis, we have a direct threat of the use (of a) nuclear weapon if in fact, things continue down the path they are going. We have not faced the prospect of Armageddon since Kennedy and the Cuban Missile Crisis.” Biden added that the Russian President wasn’t bluffing “when he talks about the use of tactical nuclear weapons or biological or chemical weapons.”
Joe Biden continued, suggesting that the threat of nuclear war came from his military not performing to his standard during the initial invasion. Since February, Russian forces have targeted key areas of Ukraine, yet, the Ukrainian forces act unfazed. “His military is — you might say — significantly underperforming.”
As for the subject of nuclear war, Joe Biden expressed a great deal of concern about what the fallout and aftermath of such a war would bring. “I don’t think there is any such a thing as the ability to easily use a tactical nuclear weapon and not end up with Armageddon.”
While the Russian military has taken heavy losses throughout the ongoing war, it seems that Russians are not so eager to fight for their President. Recently, Putin ordered a mobilization of the reservists. This led to some Russians fleeing to the borders while others went to extreme measures to make themselves ineligible for service.
According to officials, there has been no detection of Russian forces preparing for any type of nuclear attack: a Pentagon spokesperson, Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder said, “This nuclear saber-rattling is reckless and irresponsible. As I’ve mentioned before, at this stage, we do not have any information to cause us to change our strategic deterrence posture, and we don’t assess that President Putin has made a decision to use nuclear weapons at this time.”
