While celebrities like Kayne West criticize the Black Lives Matter movement as nothing more than a scam, it seems that not everybody is willing to abandon the BLM values and the disdain they had for police officers around the country. On Wednesday, a coffee shop in Portland, Oregon, decided to host an event honoring the local police. It was called “Coffee with a Cop.” Although the event went off as planned, during the night, a group of masked individuals decided to completely destroy the place by smashing windows, spray painting over the walls, and breaking items with a fire extinguisher.

According to the Portland Police Bureau, the suspects were not at the scene when local police officers arrived. While there is an ongoing investigation into the incident, the police have made no arrests. “The suspects were no longer at the scene, and officers did not immediately make arrests. An investigation began. Early information suggests that the business was targeted after it advertised that it would be hosting ‘Coffee with a Cop.'”

Although no arrests were made, the Portland Police Bureau noted that some officers stayed behind to help clean up the coffee shop, which was locally owned and operated. “Some of the responding officers assisted with the cleanup efforts. The business owner stated that she wanted to proceed with the Coffee with a Cop event, and it went forward as planned this morning…PPB is grateful to the business owner for hosting and giving officers and the community an opportunity to interact and discuss public safety issues.”
Releasing a statement on the attack, Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler, a Democrat, declared that if any suspect is arrested, “I will advocate for the prosecution to the fullest extent of the law—including potential federal hate crimes.”
A GoFundMe page was created for the coffee shop by the owner, Loretta Guzman. She explained the damage and how they “sprayed painted all over the furniture, walls, [and] original Native artwork.” She is asking for $100,000 to help restore the shop to its former glory.

Locals rallied behind the shop, showering them with donations and support. Users wrote, “We were heartbroken to see that our favorite coffee shop was vandalized. My husband is a small business owner, and we understand the ripple effect caused not just with family but employees and the community.”
Another person added, “I am a regular – I love your creative coffee menu, especially the smoked cherry vanilla coffee and the cheddar bacon biscuits. I know PDX has a thing against cops, but it was ending community policing that caused the surge in murder and vandalization. Your event was essential to healing Portland, and this is absolutely devastating.”
