Play That Sympathizes With Convicted Pedophiles Given Glowing Review By Jeff Bezo’s Washington Post

Just when folks thought that the elitists composing the traditional mainstream media couldn’t be any more repulsive in any number of respects, The Washington Post decided to publish a glowing review for “a play about pedophiles [1],” where the story aims to have audiences feel sympathetic for the pedophiles featured in the play’s story.

On November 23rd, The Washington Post published a piece titled, “‘Downstate’ is a play about pedophiles. It’s also brilliant,” which was written by the new outlet’s proclaimed [2] “theater critic” Peter Marks.

According to The Washington Post’s author profile on Marks, he has served as the outlet’s “chief drama critic” for the past 20 years, and it’s hard to tell what’s worse with this report about the pedophile play: Marks’ glowing review of it, or the fact that a play trying to sympathetically portray pedophiles was written and produced.

The unsettling play, which is currently being performed at New York City’s Playwrights Horizons, notes in their content transparency statement [5] that the production features, “Discussions and sometimes graphic descriptions of child abuse, rape, sexual assault, and pedophilia,” and the synopsis of the play [6] itself mentions the sympathetic tone for pedophiles featured in the story as a sort of journey “to locate the line between justice and retribution.”

“At a registered address in downstate Illinois, four men convicted of sex crimes share a group home where they live out their days post-incarceration. When a man shows up to confront his childhood abuser, it becomes hard to locate the line between justice and retribution.”

For those curious, apparently the play portrays the now-adult victim of childhood sexual abuse as the person playgoers are supposed to view as the proverbial “bad guy” and his molester who was beaten in prison to the point of being crippled as someone to show sympathy for.

Apparently, WaPo theater critic Marks was among those viewers of this unnerving play that walked away from the experience with a sympathetic perspective towards child abusers, writing that the play invoked a thought “that the punishments inflicted on some pedophiles are so harsh and unrelenting as to be inhumane,” per his own words in his write-up for The Washington Post.

And there you have it right here, folks: A writer for The Washington Post is engaged in peak moral relativism by questioning whether there can be a punishment too harsh for a pedophile.

Glowingly applauding the playwright Bruce Norris for this pro-pedophile production, Marks claimed that “Norris proposes a variation on this proposition at off-Broadway’s Playwrights Horizons: He is questioning what degree of compassion should society fairly hold out to those who have served their time for sexual abuse, assault or rape.”

Marks goes on to further applaud the playwright’s ability to make the pedophile characters in “Downstate” centerstage, writing, “the predators who’ve completed their prison terms are depicted not as monsters but rather as complicated, troubled souls,” later adding the production details what each pedophile “has done, and we are in effect asked to judge for ourselves what magnitude of ongoing torment each deserves.”

In conclusion, Marks asserted that “‘Downstate’ is proof positive that you can love a play that turns you inside out,” urging readers who have an open mind about more compassionate treatment toward pedophiles should score some tickets to see this play.

Between the mere existence of this pro-pedophile play coupled with such a review featured in The Washington Post, any progressive cretin who’d dare to claim that there isn’t a pro-pedophile agenda going on with the elites is clearly just trying to gaslight people.

At this point, the only way the folks propagating this degeneracy could make this agenda more “in your face” would be to literally just diddle children in a nonchalant manner publicly and claim what they’re doing isn’t wrong.

For years, the progressive left has been putting in overtime to jam the Overton Window into a position where outright pedophilia will be normalized and accepted, undoubtedly with the sinister goal of having it codified as some kind of protected orientation. To be candid, it’s the nature of ultra-left progressives to increase the acceptance of various types of degeneracy, and mainstreaming pedophilia is no exception.

And still, the gaslighting continues, with there being a full blown Wikipedia entry [7] calling the widespread attempt at normalizing pedophilia and bonafide instances of child grooming a “conspiracy theory.”

“Since the early 2020s, conservatives and members of the far-right, mostly in the United States, have falsely accused LGBT people, as well as their allies and progressives in general, of systematically using LGBT-positive education and campaigns for LGBT rights as a method of child grooming. These accusations and conspiracy theories are baseless, homophobic and transphobic, and they contribute to a moral panic.”

In the span of a few short years, the progressive left have opted to label pedophiles “minor attracted persons,” they’ve inundated the public school system with perverted sexual ideologies [8], they’re producing entertainment sympathetic to pedophiles, and they’re in turn writing praising reviews for such abhorrent productions – but they’ll go on to claim that what is happening right in front of everyone isn’t the furthering of a nefarious agenda.

Any sort of production trying to downplay pedophilia or shed a sympathetic light on those who sexually abuse children should be a non-starter from the get-go, as there is genuinely no way to place a compassionate spin on a population of folks who violate and harm children in the most degenerate of ways so as to appease their debauched lusts.
