The Clark County Sheriff’s Office has released body cam footage showing deputies opening fire on a Brush Prairie resident they were responding to for an apparent domestic violence incident on February 20th.

The suspect has been identified as 53-year-old Jonathan Gale. Deputies responded to a 911 call made by a woman on her male family member’s phone claiming that her mother was being held hostage and that she was acting strange.

The suspect was found outside of his RV with the victim, who was later identified as the suspect’s mother. While other deputies spoke with Gale, one spoke with the victim who claimed he had sexually assaulted her. She also stated that the suspect was armed and that she wanted to go home.

As the deputies proceeded to question Gale, they asked him if he had any guns. At this point, Gale became agitated and claimed to have COVID-19, moving his hand towards his waistband. The deputies responded by drawing their guns and giving commands to Gale.

Gunshots can be heard in the body cam footage as the deputies open fire on the suspect. Gale falls to the ground after the exchange of bullets and can be seen being handcuffed by the deputies. Two guns were recovered from the scene – one found on the ground and another tucked inside of Gale’s clothing.

The victim was brought to the hospital for an evaluation, while Gale’s body was pronounced dead by medics who arrived at the scene to administer first aid. This incident highlights the dangers law enforcement faces each day while working to protect the public.
