Suspect In Gruesome Hatchet Attack Gets Hole Punched By Police In Washington [VIDEOS]

Newly released video footage shows the intense moments when police officers in Kent, Washington, were forced to shoot a suspect who had carried out a brutal and unprovoked attack on a 71-year-old man at a park in Federal Way. The incident occurred on December 23 near 24800 Pacific Highway South.

After a thorough investigation, prosecutors announced that the two officers involved in the shooting have been cleared of any wrongdoing. The video evidence captured the officers chasing the suspect, Paleti Anikesi Veniale, on foot as he wielded a large knife. In a tense moment, Veniale pivoted toward the officers, causing one of them to fall to the ground. Recognizing the imminent danger, the officers fired their weapons, prompting Veniale to drop the knife he was holding over the fallen officer.

It was revealed that Veniale was wanted for attempted murder in connection to a vicious assault that occurred just two days prior to the shooting. Court records indicate that Veniale had stalked his 71-year-old victim at Town Square Park in Federal Way before launching a surprise attack with a hatchet on December 21, 2023. The surveillance cameras at the park captured footage of the heinous incident, which showed Veniale relentlessly striking the elderly man, even after he had fallen to the ground. The attack, lasting 25 seconds, was determined to be entirely unprovoked.

Following the assault, Veniale fled the scene, leaving the victim in critical condition. The injured victim was swiftly taken to Harborview Medical Center, where medical professionals initially feared he might not survive his extensive injuries to the head, face, and chest. However, the victim has since made significant progress and is currently listed in satisfactory condition after nearly three months of treatment at Harborview.

Veniale, who was captured and detained after being wounded in the shooting, faced charges of attempted murder in the first degree. Prosecutors emphasized Veniale’s extensive violent criminal history and the extreme level of violence displayed in his unprovoked attack in their charging documents. A bail of $1 million was requested.

Further revelations emerged when court records disclosed that Veniale had tested positive for methamphetamine and fentanyl during his medical treatment for the gunshot wounds he sustained during the encounter with the police.

The police response to the Federal Way park attack involving Paleti Anikesi Veniale highlights the bravery and dedication of law enforcement officers who put their lives on the line to protect innocent citizens. The newly released video evidence supports the actions taken by the officers, demonstrating their commitment to ensuring public safety and bringing justice to those who commit heinous acts of violence.
