According to MTA police, Zarzuela approached the girl, who hails from the Bronx, around 11:50 a.m. inside the historic terminal and punched her without any warning. The girl was left disoriented and in pain, necessitating her immediate transfer to NYU Langone-Tisch Hospital for medical attention.
Authorities revealed that Zarzuela had initially fled the scene but was later apprehended. Court records indicate that he was already facing charges for assaulting an elderly woman on April 4. Despite the seriousness of the prior incident, Manhattan Judge Laurie Peterson had released him without bail, a decision that has drawn criticism.
