NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A dramatic incident unfolded on Saturday morning in the Trinity Hills area as a burglary suspect was shot by a homeowner in an act of self-defense, according to local police reports.
The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Anton Cosby, allegedly broke into a residence on Shreeve Lane shortly before 6 a.m. The unsuspecting victim and his family were abruptly awakened by the sound of banging on their front door and windows, signaling an imminent danger.
Reacting swiftly to protect his family and property, the homeowner retrieved his firearm and confronted Cosby. He issued repeated commands for the intruder to leave, warning Cosby that he would use his weapon if necessary. However, Cosby defied the warnings and proceeded to break the kitchen window in an attempt to gain entry into the house.
In a swift response to the impending threat, the homeowner fired a single shot, striking Cosby in the arm. Subsequently, the suspect dropped his revolver near the kitchen sink and hastily fled the scene.

Law enforcement officers quickly located Cosby in close proximity to the crime scene. During their attempt to provide medical assistance, Cosby exhibited combative behavior. Eventually, he was transported to Skyline Medical Center for treatment of his non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
In a significant development, authorities have concluded that the actions taken by the homeowner were justified acts of self-defense. As a result, the District Attorney’s office has confirmed that the victim will not face charges in connection with the shooting incident.
However, once released from medical care, Cosby will face multiple charges, including aggravated burglary, felony vandalism, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm while intoxicated.
