Norco, CA – In a tense situation, a Riverside County sheriff’s deputy took swift action by shooting and ultimately neutralizing an individual who approached the deputies while brandishing a knife on Thursday, February 8, as confirmed by the department.

The incident unfolded around 6 p.m. when deputies were alerted to a person wielding a knife in the vicinity of Hamner Avenue and 6th Street, according to a news release issued by the sheriff’s department.

Upon arrival at the scene, the deputies confronted the suspect and ordered him to drop the knife, but the suspect failed to comply with their commands, as recounted in the news release.

Sgt. Deirdre Vickers, spokeswoman for the sheriff’s department, shared that the deputies initially attempted to subdue the suspect using a Taser, hoping to disable him. However, their efforts proved ineffective, and the suspect persisted in advancing towards one of the deputies while still armed with the knife.

In response to the imminent threat, the deputy made the decision to discharge their firearm, successfully striking the suspect and eliminating the danger.
