A Florida principal has been taken into police custody after a disturbing video surfaced showing him physically assaulting a student. Dontay Prophet, a self-proclaimed “beacon of integrity and faith,” was recorded choking, slapping, and whipping the student with a charging cable at the Destiny Leadership Academy in Ocala, just northwest of Orlando.

The shocking incident, which took place on May 10, was captured by security cameras and later released by the sheriff’s office. The footage shows Prophet engaging in a struggle with the young boy before restraining him on the ground with his legs. The principal is then seen hitting the child in the face with the cable, causing injuries and twisting the child’s ankle.

Authorities allege that the child was held in the room for approximately 40 minutes. It was a teacher who heard the screams and reported the incident, leading to the discovery of the footage.

During the investigation, the boy described himself as “shy” and “scared” and mentioned experiencing pain in his hips from the incident. His mother was unaware of what had transpired until contacted by the police.

Prophet, upon his arrest, was informed that the entire assault had been caught on camera. He initially claimed that he had resorted to physical force to get the child’s attention, arguing that the child was attempting self-harm. However, he was charged with aggravated child abuse and false imprisonment of a child under 13.

6 Must Know Tips About The Aftermath of Self Defense

This is not the first time Prophet has faced legal trouble. In May 2019, he was arrested on charges of sexually abusing a minor he had met while working as a camp counselor in 2017. The previous case involved allegations of lewd and lascivious molestation of a child and attempting to interfere with child custody. Although Prophet initially planned to plead no contest to the charges, he changed his plea, resulting in the case being considered a felony sexual offense. Despite this, one charge was dropped, and Prophet could not be convicted on the other.

Prophet’s employers at the Destiny Leadership Academy, including executive principal Dr. Elvira Higgins, have declined to comment on how he obtained such a high-profile role after his previous legal issues.

A closed-door meeting was held between school administrators and parents to address the situation. Prophet’s employment history shows that he had worked as a behavior technician and paraprofessional but resigned in 2019 under circumstances related to his arrest.

On Prophet’s personal website, he acknowledges his 2019 arrest and describes it as baseless accusations that tarnished his reputation. He claims to have emerged from the incident “victorious” but provides no further details about the case.

Prophet also includes a glowing tribute to an undisclosed “prominent politician” on his website, praising his own leadership and passion for excellence. He mentions plans to pursue a law degree in the near future and lists Western Governors University, Santa Fe College, and Southeastern University as his educational institutions.

Currently, Prophet is being held without bond at the Marion County jail. His next court appearance is scheduled for June 11.
