Maybe this is a dumb question and I really want to know. Can someone in an authority position be arrested and jailed for repeating (as an “authority” figure) a flat out lie. Ignorance is not an excuse so they can’t fall back on “we didn’t know”. If they could be then every single one of these people need to be locked up. No exceptions. All of them.
Only if they speak the lie under oath. But that doesn’t apply to members of congress while in their official duties during debate.
