According to Chief Troy Finner, Sergeant Valle, with 17 years of experience, was part of a Crime Suppression Team that had encountered a man suspected of multiple burglaries and an aggravated assault. The suspect, who was driving a silver car, was spotted by the sergeant and two other officers.

The situation unfolded around 1 a.m. when the suspect drove to the 5800 block of Parkersburg with a female accomplice and began observing businesses. Meanwhile, the sergeant, along with his team, continued their search for the suspect and arrived in the 7000 block of Harwin. Unexpectedly, an “ambush-style attack” occurred when the suspect fired multiple shots into the sergeant’s car through the passenger side window.

Despite being injured, the sergeant managed to exit his vehicle and return fire, successfully hitting the suspect. The suspect fled the scene but was later found near a nearby building. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sergeant Valle sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his arms and legs, but his ballistic vest protected him from another bullet. Quick-thinking officers applied tourniquets to control his injuries before he was rushed to the hospital, where he was treated and later released.

Both the police department and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office will conduct separate investigations, as per protocol, to examine any potential criminal and administrative aspects of the incident.
