The sequence of events began when a 911 caller reported that their vehicle’s window had been shot out by another vehicle on State Route 4, and that the alleged shooter’s vehicle was still in pursuit. According to police, the chase initiated at the Shell gas station on State Route 235, during which the suspect is alleged to have discarded what police believe to be methamphetamine from his window.

The pursuit came to an end on Taylorsville Road, where the suspect’s vehicle stopped in the grass. Upon exiting his vehicle, the suspect allegedly brandished a weapon. Officer Shawn Waller, a 19-year veteran of the Huber Heights Police, responded by opening fire, striking the suspect.

Chief Lightner detailed the encounter: “The suspect left the driver’s seat and was immediately ordered to the ground by officers. In the officer’s cruiser video, you can clearly see the suspect face the officer and raise a black AR-15-style rifle, pointing it directly at the officers. The officer closest to the suspect opened fire and struck the suspect, who tried to flee with his rifle still in hand.”
