The Colorado Supreme Court has made a decision that prevents former President Trump from appearing on the state’s ballots for the 2024 election. The disqualification is based on the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution and is related to the so-called “insurrection” on January 6, 2021. The ruling was split, with a 4-3 majority in favor of the disqualification. However, the ruling is on hold until January 4, 2024, due to expected appeals.

The majority of the court was aware of the significance of their decision and acknowledged their responsibility to apply the law impartially. They wrote, “We do not reach these conclusions lightly. We are mindful of the magnitude and weight of the questions now before us. We are likewise mindful of our solemn duty to apply the law, without fear or favor, and without being swayed by public reaction to the decisions that the law mandates we reach.”

President Trump, during a speech in Waterloo, Iowa, did not directly address the Colorado Supreme Court’s ruling. However, he claimed that Joe Biden and the “far-Left lunatics” were willing to go to extreme measures to stop him. Trump accused them of violating the U.S. Constitution and using law enforcement to interfere with the election. Trump’s campaign spokesman, Steven Cheung, stated that they would be filing an appeal and criticized the court’s decision as being influenced by a left-wing group.

In a prior ruling, Colorado District Judge Sarah B. Wallace allowed Trump to remain on the ballot, but stated that he had engaged in insurrection for his involvement on January 6. Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold announced that she would follow the court’s guidance on this matter.

Numerous lawsuits regarding Trump’s eligibility for the ballot are pending in 13 states, including Texas, Nevada, and Wisconsin.

Colorado GOP Chairman Dave Williams appeared with Laura Loomer to discuss the ruling, he told the Colorado Supreme Court to “Go F*ck yourself” and discussed plans to take a statewide vote prior to the primary.
