Surveillance footage shows undercover detectives in unmarked SUVs converging on the parking lot and blocking Calderon’s vehicle. As detectives attempted to exit their SUVs, Calderon opened fire with his fully automatic weapon, targeting them. The first detective’s body-camera video reveals the intense gunfire that struck his windshield, while other rounds hit the police vehicles of the second and third detectives. Realizing the danger, the first detective quickly exited the SUV through the passenger’s door and sought cover behind nearby vehicles.

In the second detective’s body-camera footage, we witness him being shot at as soon as he leaves his vehicle. He engages in a firefight with the suspect, initially using his rifle and then switching to his handgun. Amid the chaos, the second detective urgently asks about the victim’s location, prompting a confused response from other detectives on the scene. Meanwhile, Calderon, positioned in the backseat of his SUV, continues shooting at the detectives.

The second detective positions himself on the hood of the first detective’s SUV, aiming his weapon through the shattered rear window of Calderon’s vehicle. Despite seeing Calderon still armed and moving, the detective warns him not to make any sudden moves. As other detectives alert that Calderon is still active, gunfire is exchanged once again, with the first detective firing additional rounds.

The body-camera video from the third detective reveals him being targeted and returning fire during the shootout. He later reports feeling injured, specifically mentioning a bleeding ear and uncertainty about taking a bullet. Although the third detective was taken to the hospital, he was released on the same day.

During the intense exchange of gunfire, one detective, who blocked the suspect’s vehicle from the front, witnessed the kidnapping victim fleeing the SUV and taking cover behind a parked car. The detective announces, “I got the victim!” multiple times, and the victim expresses gratitude for being rescued.

Additional video footage shows Calderon’s bullet-riddled ballistic vest, two magazines taped together, and a handgun and rifle discovered on the floorboard of the SUV. The second detective confirms that Calderon was still alive when reached inside the vehicle and immediately requested medical assistance. Calderon succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

After the shootout, other detectives swiftly apprehended Edge, the second individual involved. Edge, a former marine with service experience in Kuwait and Iraq, claimed that he had traveled from Texas to assist a friend and was not aware of the kidnapping plan.
