During the morning rush hour, the scene outside LAX turned chaotic as the group of protesters impeded traffic flow along Century Boulevard. In response, authorities declared an unlawful assembly and advised commuters to utilize alternate routes such as Sepulveda Blvd, Arbor Vitae Street, and Airport Way. LAPD officers intervened when the protesters attempted to obstruct the roadway using cement blocks and other objects. Some demonstrators dispersed in various directions, while others were taken into custody.

By noon, approximately 35 protesters had been arrested, according to officials. The protest was characterized by protesters carrying signs advocating for a ceasefire and expressing their support for a “Free Palestine.”

Passengers faced unexpected challenges as determined travelers abandoned their vehicles and walked to the airport, carrying their luggage, in an effort to catch their flights on time. Traffic in the vicinity remained heavily congested, prompting the LAPD to declare a tactical alert for a brief period.

The ‘demonstration’ at LAX was eventually cleared and the remaining ‘protesters’ were apprehended at the intersection of Manchester Avenue and Sepulveda Blvd. Officials stated that some protesters received citations and were released for rioting, while others were arrested for assault on a peace officer. LAX officials confirmed that flight operations were not impacted by the protest.

In a similar display, protests disrupting traffic were also reported in New York City on the same day. This coordinated effort aimed to disrupt travel during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.

These incidents highlight the ongoing tension and divisions surrounding the Israel-Hamas conflict, with pro-Palestine demonstrators raising their voices at major US airports. As disruptions to normal operations persist, airports and law enforcement agencies must work diligently to maintain order and ensure the safety and well-being of travelers.
